I would have 27 points had I picked this team before the deadline, trust me I did not use any of the information from completed games to pick my team either.
BTW, I don't expect US to make it past the first round.

Yes - not with the uninspired playing they did against the Czechs. Aussies pulled a nice one out of their hat against Japan though. 3 goals in the last 8 minutes.

Is there much coverage of the World Cup over in the US guys?
I was over there 4 years ago when it was being played in Japan and you would hardly know the tournament was on, which was a shame, as usa did really well and were unlucky not to get to the semi final

Our women's team tends to get better coverage nationwide - but maybe that is because they actually win. And when I was a lad in the 70s everyone I knew was on a soccer team. But when you get to high school it seems that it is only offered for girls more often than not. So in the middle of the country there is probably no coverage at all but in all the cities (300 million people here after all) there are plenty of pubs that show World Cup for the entire month and some of them are quite packed and quite rowdy. Obviously in a city with a big European expat community (like New York) you notice World Cup going on a lot more.
Other than that - sportscasters here have trouble keeping the smirks off their face's when they mention World Cup because it's not Baseball (dull!) or an American Football game with one play and then 15 minutes of commercials (duller still). They don't seem to realise the rest of the world plays it.
One problem is that our soccer players don't get paid at nearly the level of baseball, basketball, and football - so I think we miss out on getting our best atheletes to play soccer. Hmmmm - do I want to get paid 30,000 a year or 5 million? hmmm. . .let me think. . .
And after World Cup - footy disappears off the radar for another couple of years.
All that said - I will be trying to catch a few games this month hopefully - and being a yank - can pretty much root for whomever I want.

Yeah - I would imagine that as a lot of the colleges in North Carolina probably have soccer teams it has generated more interest there. I am not saying that it impossible that soccer will ever become a major sport in the U.S. - just maybe not in my lifetime. But then - based on Pong - I never thought video games would generate more money than Hollywood. And the internet does allow people to generate interest as well. There is definitely more soccer awareness created everytime World Cup happens. Meanhwile - perhaps I will become a Fulham supporter!
