I haven't been here for a while, but I thought I'd pop in and see if any of my old TLC-mates were planning on playing Champions Online. It's coming out in about a month, and I was just curious. I've already pre-ordered the game, and am just waiting for it to come out.

Most likely I will take a wait and see approach to be honest. My guildies in WoW were a former guild in City of Heroes and some of them have been playing the beta for CO. Also I finally convinced Steevo to give WoW a whirl on the Burning Blade US server and he has really taken to it (wasn't what he thought it would be I guess heh). So we've been having fun there. Also I am in such a terrific guild and a lot of family plays WoW that it would be hard to tear myself away from it for anything other than a truly exceptional new MMO. I've just started too many MMOs that showed promise and then abandoned them in the past year or so. So first they must deliver. That said - I like the idea of CO. Yeah, I know it was delayed. It really sucks. >< But at least it'll make the game better, I suppose.
I can't say I'm much of a WoW person. I've played the free trial a few times but just can't get into the game. But I'm not really much of a fantasy person... I prefer sci-fi and such. So Champions Online seems like a good fit for me, seeing as I enjoyed CoH.

I hear ya - I would totally welcome a not fantasy setting in a successful MMO - perhaps Bioware could redeem the Star Wars universe from Lucas with their upcoming MMO. Definitely going to keep my eye on both that and CO.
Curiously, a lot of people who played DC Universe and Champions Online side by side at ComicCon - prefered the way DC Universe played.

I have yet to play either of them so I have no clue. >> They both look interesting, but I'm really digging the whole custom super villain idea for CO. And it seems to have a lot more customization than DCUO, but maybe that's just me. They seem to have some neater powers, too, like the tunneling powers, swinging powers, and armor powers.
DCUO doesn't look like it's going to be out for quite a while anyway.

Also it just about everyone fumbles the endgame these days. Plenty a well funded MMO thought they could just add the endgame after release. Except it almost always comes too late or not at all. I think with expectations these days, if you want to create a game that you are going to charge a monthly fee for, you need a whole team just working on your endgame.

That's very true. I actually can't think of any MMO that's launched in the past two or three years that even had a wealth of end-game content-- or much of any at all. Okay, I can understand the Devs thinking they can wait to add a lot of end-game content until after launch... However, it needs to be added in no later than a month or two after the game launches, and than it needs to be added in regularly.
It took a year for Auto Assault to add in end-game content (and mail, and auction houses), and it took six months for Tabula Rasa. From what I've seen, it's taken Pirates of the Burning Sea a year to start adding in end-game content as well. What's the deal with that? Do the Devs just think that level-capped players will patiently wait until the Devs get around to giving them something to do? People don't pay for a game just so they can wait around, they pay because they want something to do. The Devs of all MMOs need to wake up and realize that the players aren't going to wait for them and still give them money.
