I recently got into the closed beta test for this game and I must admit that it's actually a pretty neat little game. It's another one of those "free" MMOs, and it's an anime-themed one at that (great for me 'cause I love anime). It's based on a video game series though, admittedly, I've never played any of the games... I really should.
Anyhow, the game is an interesting little game. It's nothing amazing, but it's different in its own right. Character customization isn't half bad, and there are lots of different clothes you can pick up too. There are a ton of different skills and the system is entirely open-ended so you can create your own custom "class" however you want. There are magic skills, gun skills, melee skills, summoning skills, crafting skills, healing skills, taunting skills, talking, threatening and more.
You use the taunting, conversing and threatening skills on monsters called "demons". You talk/threaten/intimidate them and they may join you, or they may attack you. If they do join you, you can either let the computer control them (attack and move) or you can switch control from your character to the demon and control it directly.
There are supposedly 200 different types of demons you can befriend, and you can combine demons together to make custom breeds. Demons range from wolf-like critters to snakes, blobs of goo, and rather sexy pixies in bondage wraps and chains, and many others.
The combat system is more of a tactics kind of a system in a way. Instead of simply selecting a monster, clicking an attack and letting the computer do the rest, you plan your attacks and attack or counter. For example, just before a demon attacks you can charge up a powerful block that will block the demon's attack and stun it briefly, long enough for you to make a quick attack of your own. There are also dash attacks, lunge attacks, and others. Demons have their own unique attacks that they can use as well.
It's not an amazing game by any means, but it's an interesting little game and it's rather entertaining.
