I'm getting my teeth into this at the moment. I think it's a great game. Adult themes and language, dark and desolate setting and an involving story make this, for me, most similar to The Witcher, but in a modern, cyberpunk setting.
It's from 2004, but i think it stands up fine today. The graphics are not mind-blowing but i think they are very good considering it's a few years old.
I'm about a third of the way through and the plot is really hotting up, with an ominous discovery that has me watching my back.
A couple of the missions so far were fantastic: 1) A (rather "The Shining"-like) ghost house where the (rather "The Ring"-like) ghost of a murdered child guides you towards revenge. 2) A mad vampire-scientist's lair where crackly old voice recordings recounting gruesome experiments provide the background.
It's very involving and i've certainly found myself getting emotionally attached to my character and his acquaintances.
Well worth a DL, probably worth buying, as it will be cheap now, i would think.

I have foten thought about getting that one. Even more so recently when I read something about a massive patch or an enhanced edition that dealt with some of the issues that tainted the original release.

Yes there were apparently some problems with the original. The copy i "acquired" has all the patches, and is a great install if you carefully follow the slightly complicated instructions*: thepiratebay.org/torrent/4215139/Vampire_The_Masquerade__Ultimate_BloodlinesI have come across one bug in it; i will say only this for fear of spoiler - "Boris Door". If you have the same bug let me know as i have a workaround. * Note that i got a no-CD .exe from GameCopyWorld rather than use the mini-.iso at the end of the instructions
