Greetings all,
Thought I would drop a line as it has been a week since Hurricane Gustav slammed into us and no power has been restored to our neighborhood as of yet. About 1.5 million people were without power intially. I think that number is down to about 400,000 now. The missus and I try and get stuff done during the day before we plunge into darkness. This has finally convinced me that we need a generator. We had evacuated some friends from New Orleans and about seven pets to our house in Baton Rouge (where we wound up having the eyewall of Gustav smack right into us) so it was a bit of of a circus.
I am at a coffee shop right now using their electricty and internet. Might park my butt here all day. A week is quite enough 18th century theme park for me. Strangely the mail resumed the day after the Hurricane and I have received my copy of Away Day all the way from the U.K. which I will be diving into shortly. Just read The Road by Cormac McCarthy as I am all into the disaster narratives right now so David's book will fit right in. Of course, if they get our power up within a week we will all be bracing for Hurricane Ike which, somewhat tiresomely, seems to be headed right for us. Bah! -Mike

The power is back! But the grog is gone! Stolen in the dark night by persons unknown. . .ahem.
