This for some reason is one of the best MMO's I have ever played. It is derivative of others but is so well crafted its a dream. Its a Fantasy MMO, like LOTRO or Warhammer hack, slash grind, level. skills, map etc but its an absolute joy. I reconed anyoine that likes the fantasy MMO style to do it to level 10 and see what they think. The entire game is superbly polished - but the big pull is its totally free. shaiya.aeriagames.com/I need 7 players in a Grp to form TLC in Shaiya. If you play beyond lvl 10 and like it, let me know here if you want to form a TLC Guild.

Please do peeps as I need 6 of you at lvl 11 to start The Cannons off in here. Quick update - teh game continues to slowly reveal more depth. I have to say I'm pretty gobsmacked how they can produce syuch a quality game based on 'micropayments' (which I have resisted so fdar, wait till I play with a beer or two in me I will probably spend £50 on buffs one night). I played my first dungeon last noght and battled down to the main boss, known as 'The Devil' in a large group - twas awesome. Only discoverd massive group dungeons existed last night. looks like 2 or so per map. There is also RvR PvP if you want it - if you don't then you don't do it - It does however give you prestige and access to special crystals (drops from players and mobs in 'The Frontier' that can upgrade weps in special slots.

OK i'm DLing this now.
From the graphics on their site though, i have a bad feeling it's going to be manga-style, which i detest.

Pfft, I love manga-style. 'Course I'm a huge anime fan anyway...
But anyway, I played this game about a year ago. I can't really remember much about it, but I do remember that I wasn't much into it, though. But I might give it another shot to be sure.

Naa not manga style. p.s. As its a free game I suspect, I found written help hard to come by. This should help: shaiya.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Pagebest one I found so far.

The in-game tips are all in Engrish. Quite amusing.
Here are my thoughts (and sorry that i am always so negative)
Dreadfully generic. No avatar customization at all. You can't even change your skin colour! Consequently everyone looks the same.
Careers are bland and uninspiring. Bog-standard fantasy careers and no chance to mix and match to make a unique character.
"Kill 20 rats, then kill 20 slightly bigger rats" type "missions".
Kids hanging around talking in TXT. "Lol" at the end of every sentence.
It reminds me of GW. That too had no customisation and was very generic. But that did at least look better.
So, not the game for me. Sorry. I'm sure if you got hold of some lollipops or puppies you'd be able to convince enough of the kids in it to join your society though.

you decided too early - level 1 to 10 is generic, 10 to 20 defines and 20 onwards is as hard as ferk.
A days grouping at 23 tells you what its about.
We'll come back to this one. Anyone who finds it interesting i will tell you my guild.

Doe you get to customise your character more at a later level?
Or does everyone still look the same at lvl 20?

In terms of appearance this varies very substantially as you move up teh levels as you get access to more and more equipment. Some of teh high level players look amazing in their battle gear. The physical characteristics options (as you will have discovered) are pretty limited and many of us look like bastard brothers.
The character performance customisations seems to allow for a fair amount of diversification over time, even within the same classes as the allocation of physical points is a user controlled process spread across the usual core characteristics and influences strength, intelect, luck etc and these in turn control hit points, manna regeneration, stamina regeneration etc. This of couse influences how you react to being whacked, magic'd at and how many skill moves you can pull of before you run out of manna or stamina (magic ansd physical buffs)
In parallel to physical attribute points you also get skill buff points at each level and these can be applied to a vast range of buffs of physical or magical types (i.e. mega kick ass strike with sword and/or magic buffs).
There is no crafting but a very healthy trade and bartering network exists built around rare drops and huge sums go for rare weps enhanced (by teh blacksmith) with 'Lapis' crystals - which magically enhance weps come in at least 4 levels and half a dozen classes and are drops in the 'Borderlands' area where if you don't watch yer ass you get pounced on by the enemy as these zones are PvP. Of couse you don't have to go there, you can grind cash and buy these rare weps or crystals and make yoru own gear.
