I am absolutely delighted to say that i have been accepted as one of 10 people in my community to beta the SWG Emu created by SWG: A New Hope.
I know Trencher and maybe a few others are interested in the progress of this, so i'll post here about how it's coming on. Feel free to ask me any questions about it.

Yeah i'm getting on TR as soon as it's finished updating. 10 mins to go...
I've got the week off work, so plenty of time for TR and SWG....
I know this is a kind of blasphemy considering the reason this guild was created, but TBH i am not too happy that PotBS has been allied with SOE. It was meant to be a non-corporate game with a free download and reasonable monthly fee. With SOE involved it's now an expensive box set and who knows what they will charge monthly and with The Devil at the reins as far as game changes go...... We'll see.

TLC does seem to be evolving into a gamer's guild and that really isn't a bad thing - especially if we all enjoy each other's company. I love it when communities spring up like the SWG EMU - so please do keep us up to date on that Turwhitt. One day a company is going to come out with a really flexible MMO creator program that'll have people creating their own worlds and communities. Something like RealmCrafter except incredibly robust. Been really busy at work but that is starting to relax a bit so I should be back in action on TR soon. www.realmcrafter.com/catalog/information.php?info_id=6

I would really welcome a report on SWG EMU every now and then. I am aware that it was as deep as the ocean and crafting and character development I believe were considered second to none. I believe they ruined it in a lot of peoples eyes by trying to spice it up into a 3rd person combat game?

Been playing MMO's since the start. Everquest broke the ground, and Star Wars: Galaxies broke the mold. I played SWG from closed beta through the first year to the space expansion. I was one of the first Master Doc's/ Master Combat Medic on Bria, and a leader in the Rebel Underground. At it's heigth we had around 200+ active members and a roll call of about 350+, including more then 20 active player cities.
Never has a game had so much potential, and been so good, only to have it defiled by a pack of code monkey's that can't fix anything. SOE is like that shit-head older kid up the street that never left his mothers house, and now in his mid 30's, he is still picking on kids, only cause he can. You know that SOE: America goes out in a beat up pick-up truck and get's day labor coders down the street from there San Diego HQ's.
The crafting system was diverse, only you could macro it and leave your machine running while you slept, and wake up with stacks of xp and product. The havesting system was the best I have seen, allthough running a Materials Emporium and having 4 accounts and over 100 lots to move on every material shift on a varriable weekly rotation got to be mind numbing.
The combat system needed some love, TEF's never really worked right. There never should of been holocron's introduced, you should of had to grind every single class in order to unlock a force sensitive character slot. The rebel pet's sucked so much ass all they were good for is running Faction missions.
Ok, enough....SOE, you bitches broke my heart with this game.
And still I pay and pay as they suck up every offload house title to provide billing and server support.....will no one stop them?

Things that are working so far (that i have tested):
-All planets (including Tanaab) -Surverying -Sampling -Macros -Emotes -Mail -Bazaar -Trading -Tells -Friends List -NPCs -Training -Waypoints
Next thing to be added is crafting, i think.
Combat will be added last.

impressions so far?
What exactly is happening anyway, has the code been handed over to the public who are unpicking teh later nerfs you guys hated and rebundling an earlier version of the game that people did enjoy?

No they are building a pre-CU server from scratch (hence why this is a totally legal project). I believe they are doing this by picking apart the packets sent by the client and seeing how they should be applied to a server.
SOE's official stance is that they don't have the original pre-CU server software any more, as "someone deleted it". Yeah, rub-a-chin. Like they wouldn't have a backup of this software somewhere....
Anyway, the fact that players have to have bought SOE's client software to run it, and that they are not using any part of SOE's server software, means that they can't be sued or legally harrassed

Not even by Lucas? He's pretty notorious for that.

Not even by Lucas? He's pretty notorious for that. I'm sure he is, but he wouldn't have a case. The server software is written from scratch, and the client software (which contains all the Star Wars references) has to be legitimately owned. This is how i understand it anyway, and they have had this checked over by lawyers.

After becoming a little disillusioned, i fired up SWG EMU the other day and was amazed at how far ahead it is.
What's now complete:
-Combat -Vehicles -Travel -Chat -Spawns -Entertainer/Doc buffs -Healing -Skills
In but not complete:
-Crafting -Missions
I spent a few hours and there was hardly anything that was obviously "missing". Granted i didn't try any crafting.
I really think that it might be finished this year judging by the amount that has been added and polished over the past few months.

Sorry, I meant the new Emu itteration of it coming along. My understanding is that thsi takes teh game back to its roots and when many think it was at its best.

Yes, that's the idea.
I would say it's 90% finished.
Still, i'd also say not to bother trying the test centre. Wait until it's complete and then play it in all its complex, freeform glory. Unless you're curious, of course.
