Guys, Over the last year and a half or so, i have been writing a book. It's now available on Amazon. It's a bawdy comedy with elements of action and adventure, and it follows the progress of a group of professional footballers who get stranded in an unknown jungle. Many characters are reminiscent of the heroes (e.g. Gazza), Villains (e.g. C Ronaldo) and jokers (e.g. Beckham) of the modern game, although their names are changed. A word of warning though - if you like Ronaldo then you may be offended. The man is mercilessly mocked within its pages. But if you hate the little shit then it's your patriotic duty to buy the book! It would suit teens or adults and anyone with an interest in footy and humour. There is "mild" langauge - no Fs or Cs, but a few boll0cks and tw4ts. I know it's not that cheap for a paperback on Amazon, but this was the cheapest price i could choose. It's not about making money anyway, it's about exposure. I'd really love to be able to pitch the book as a film, and if i can show enough positive interest in the story then this should be more possible. I hope some of you like the sound of it, and will buy it, maybe lend it out. Even write me a review on Amazon if you like it. Well, here's the link. Enjoy! snipurl.com/AwayDay

Wow Tur, I am so pleased for you. I always fancied meeself as a bit of an author, and even almost completed one once (in the stylee of John Fowls after I was swept away by the Magus and soft drugs) which took me months when I was on the dole and working as a toilet cleaner, I was quite pleased with how it was going (written on about 6 A4 pads) but me mum threw it in the bin when she tidied my room when I was at Uni.
I have just ordered my copy from Amazon (£7 quid is fine) after readin the four reviews, clearly these are not members of your immediate family saying how great it is! and they seemed to really enjoy it.
Sincerely the best if luck with it.

me mum threw it in the bin when she tidied my room when I was at Uni. OMG! I can't even imagine trying to write a book without a word processing program.. you must have been gutted. after readin the four reviews, clearly these are not members of your immediate family saying how great it is! A couple of them are friends, but i asked them only to write a review they sincerely meant.

Congratulations David! I am toiling away on a novel and a screenplay myself. I just ordered a copy of your book from Amazon UK to be sent all the way to Louisiana - your first North American reader perhaps.

Challenge from turwhitt from another post on who his characters are based on in the book:
Well there are one or two who you should have no problem recognising! Not all of them are supposed to be likenesses of real players but these definitely are:
Joey Damien Rudolph Woody
And to a lesser extent: Gavin (who is a few players rolled into one).
Prizes for the first person to correctly identify them all!
Really glad you're enjoying it. Maybe you'd consider writing me a review when you're finished?

Half way through book and really enjoying it. Its my half hourly evening read while soaking in the bath with a beer and ciggy after work.
my guess so far (may change by the end)
Joey = deffinetly Ronaldo (so close ye may be sued Dave) Damien = Gazza Rudolph = Sven Woody = Beckham
Gavin = Terry, Gerard, Samson = Essien Marco = Friedal

Yep that's pretty much it.
I get the Essien reference - he would i suppose be the closest in real life, but i didn't particularly have him in mind when using Samson.
Marco isn't really ment to be anyone particular. If anyone i suppose he would be Schwarzer, but i have no idea what his personality is like, as he isn't really a public figure. So Marco's a generic giant Aussie.
And i'm pretty sure you can't be sued. People get the piss taken out of them daily (Bo Selecta anyone?) and as long as you are not accusing someone directly and seriously, it's not slander/defamation.

Read it on holidays and thought it was excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect but as an avid reader it actually is up there as one of my favourite books, teh humour works, and as an adventure it works, writing style is consistent and easy to read, imagery; takes you there.
I sopotted 3 poor typos in case you are interested in tidying up the manuscript, one on page 50, another where Emil has been 'Bill Gates'd' into Email and there is another in the 70's somewhere.
I look forward to the next one. I may be adding you to Terry Pratchett as an author I collect. My wife is also iunterested in readingt the book and will pick it up as soon as she has finisshed her current one. My nephew who is a big soccer fan and readfer will also get it after her. Ok its only one sale but if they like it they will no doubt pick up the next one, whatever the theme - Pirates?

Thanks Steevo that's very kind of you. If you had the "Email" typo, you've got the first edition. There are about 15 typos in that one. . The second edition is nominally typo free, and the typesetting is better (e.g. the first edition isn't justified either, you might have noticed). Then again, there were only a small number of first editions, so if and when i am as successful as JK Rowling, that copy will be worth a fortune (i kid, i kid).

Loved it Dave!!!
The characters were great loved a couple and hated a couple (well one in fact and we know who he was based on)
The game of footy in the jungle was great, i was totally emersed in the book by that time.
Wish it had been longer
well done mate, i will deffinetly recommend to friends and write a review on amazon soon.

Read it, loved it! A review has been posted on the Amazon UK site!
I could not help but notice that davidfairley.com is not a taken domain name - maybe you should snatch that up?
