Well Easter was pretty average for me , the weather was nasty: cold, windy, snow, wet. As we had an outdoorsy kinda weekend planned that stymied that and I ended up playing Pirates more than was healthy during the day.
Sadly being on at 7:30 am solo, by the time any interest from the rest of TLC came on I had had about enough !
What is interesting is at 40+ its very difficult to get any significant experience solo. OS missions require you to grind solo or small group 45 to 50+ NPC's and in small ships (to max exp) this is somewhat hairy at times. The points needed to level at the top end are enormous and its a long haul solo. Missions r tough to solo at 40+ as well. That’s not to say this is a bad thing., It should get harder on the last stages to 50 and it should encourage group play.
Not a lot went on as far as TLC is concerned (at least it seemed that way to me) this week end, despite expectations prior to the Easter break. All that proves to me is that the majority of TLC members either:
a) seem to be dropping babies left right and centre - sincere congrats to Jake and Herza
b) Have a family and actually have a social life.
c) are extremely religious and were in church all Easter.
* One of the above is an unlikely scenario.
I still really quite fancy the insane small ship PvP suicide mission, and to that end, I will definitely be equipping myself with something like a multi dura MC Sloop or MC Cutter with all the high rated mods. T'would be great for a Friday night to get this together and hit the PvP red zones like a swarm of angry wasps.
As for my own personal experiences in PoTBS this weekend, well... in retrospect it was a mixed bag but generally fun:
Early a.m. sessions solo were pretty dull, I tended to concentrate on production which was somewhat frustrating given that I am short of cash, plus I had pretty much given up on solo OS grinding and missions for reasons described above.
Once I did hit the OS bizarrely I spend most of Easter PvP''ing :0
I fell into this almost by accident trying to free up a dock space for my small ship in anticipation of our 'wasp session' and had loads of excitement in what was my first real, extended taste of PvP.
I took out first a standard 'Posi' and headed for a suicide run around Havana. I sighted a Brit in a 4th Rate Alexander and as I was about to jump him, got a group invite, hit 'yes' to accept group and entered the PvP instance with another lvl 50 guy in a Hermes. What followed was a real hoot and a rush: eventually, having had his sails up and down more times than George Michael's pants in a public toilet, captured him, and off went my new buddy in a brand new SOL.
Later on, both solo and with Herza and then Ralphy after a few unsuccessful chases, where I learned an enormous amount about the importance of tactics on the OS, speed and specialised PvP buffs, I had a few further modest successes which were also a real hoot.
And finally, Last thing yesterday I teamed up with our good matey from the 'other' Society (can't recall his name right now) and a number of TLC lads and did a bunch of Tortuga missions which was a blast - especially with staged mission instances involving SOL's and us using a lovely mix of MC Posi's, Tritons, Ama's & Heavy Frigates.
Well now its back to normality, which I am looking forward to. My plan is to seek groups again for OS grinding, it isn't productive for me any more solo, even when I take on 2x 50 ships in a Triton getting 300 exp per ship its way to slow to be efficient.
I also want to get a group together for Bey's Retreat, the new 6x player 'Raid' instance which apparently takes up to 4 hours, but by all accounts is a blast. We need to coordinate that of course.
Finally I really wanna do more PvP now, I have been bitten thoroughly by the bug, its a real adrenaline rush and is the 'heart of the game after all. Its just a shame this build that the cost vs the rewards is out of whack, but apparently that’s to be fixed between patch 103 and 1.5. But I still feel I really must grind to 50 to get the maximum value out of my PvP.
See ya on the high seas!
Yarrr!
