Personally, i think CPU speed is over-rated. It's all about graphics card and RAM with modern games.
Having just got a peachy new card i think i should be able to replicate these kind of graphics.

That is a beauty mate!!! I am in accord with ya about graphics card and ram being a priority but 3Ghz is a likely min for CPU if you want to run your graphics full and play the game at good f.p.s. IMHO

I got a 6800GTX card recently and it runs so hot I just had to buy 3 more fans - 8 fans in my rig at the moment. I have a double fan in a drive tray at the front I just installed and it vents out at the front onto me' legs and me' legs turn blue after a bit :/

I have a 6800 in my laptop and it just about sears my left palm - my left hand being in a permanent state of medium rare. Pushes out so much heat I don't have to turn on the radiator.

I dont like this card Trench, its flawed imo, it may be fast but they have NOT handled the heat and in playing RFO and GW, graphically intensive games, it fries after a couple of hours and crashes my system.

I hear you on that. I have never had a crash which amazes me having a 6800 Nvidia card crammed into a laptop (a 12 pound laptop at that - but since I work for an Airline and am gone half the month I need gaming goodness on the road ;D)
Sometimes keeping your system from crashing requires such a balancing act as far as software updates. One automatic Windows update can send system into a death spiral. I never upgrade my video card driver until something stops working.
Anyhoo - as long as she handles those lovely water renderings and ship models for POTBS I'll be happy. Because as soon as it is paid off - I'm buying a new one!
So I am wondering if your problem is actually a heat problem (not that I'm an expert)? Since the part of the laptop wherein the 6800 is kept has discolored from the heat - it has definitely stood up to marathon gaming sessions including hours and hours of GW with the graphics cranked to the maximum. And man it gets HOT. I would look into a driver issue or something along that nature. I hope the you get the problem solved though!
