I'm in Tabula Rasa - £3.50 pre release key gets you in 3 days early - 30th to 2nd November. Plus you only have to buy the pre-release key at this stage and if you don't want to continue, delay or don't buy the full game key on the 2nd or after. Look up Steevo Deevo if you check it out.

I know a few peeps in TLC played TR in early beta and thought it stank, well I cant make my mind up whether its good or not - cpet I can't help really really enjoying every sec while I contemplate! Trench give me a shout on Steam when u get it loaded up (if you do) cos' I'm getting to teh pont where I need some comrades to beat some of teh Instances andf even the open play missions. Turwhitt, I listen to a lot of chat in General channels and the old beta vets say it is transformed from early beta.....

OK, what do you think a non-FPS enjoyer would think?
Also, having spent a lot of time on LotRO, and enjoying it to an extent, but ultimately finding it really shallow, a part of me can't help but think i wasted my time on it.
Does TR include any of these:
-Persistent player/guild housing / cities -Skill based system (not class based) -Complex crafting
?
And what are the player base like? Much TXT-speak? Entire conversations with "lol" at the end of every sentence? Rude players?
Thanks

Phew here goes: First thing Turwhitt is I am new to it and it is a new game - doesn't even launch until tomorrow 2nd Nov. I am giving it a go because Richard Garriott (Lord British), the father and god of MPORG's is behind it. He invented the genre and this is his new and second only project after Ultima Online. What I'm getting t is I'm intrigued by the fact that Garriott has delivered a combat focussed - yes a 3rd person (not first) shooter as the basic mechanic to launch his new project. Second I am not a FPS person - Heff can witness I rarely buy them, and if I do buy one (such as HL2) I never finish it. I expect it to grow massively if Garriott's imagination is backed by player cash, and the signs are good - players are saying 'I love this game' one guy said 'I have been waiting for 10 years for an MPORG like this. That's just their views. My view as a noob is still forming but I can't wait to play it every day, but I'm always like that with a new MPORG. What's different then? Well its a 3rd person FPS styled MPORG. Well, there are a few of those mainly out of Korea which is not a good endorsement. I have played a few Korean grinders for a while and they get shallow and dull very quickly unless your are a dedicated HC fan. Its too early for me to say about long term depth but signs are good - more below. Graphics on my rig are beautiful. The action is ever present and great fun - the level grind has never been more entertaining - and I think that is very important and I fully believe Garriott has done this very intentionally. The technology: launcher updater, interface is slick as snot, one you get use to the ever present target graticule. Its fresh and different. Yet there is depth there. More on that in your questions.... OK, what do you think a non-FPS enjoyer would think?See above, but yes, as a similar type of player I think, one who likes character development, pacing, occasional crafting, I can say its a lot of fun. In most online games there is the drudger of the slash for leveling, resources and coin. This one just does it in a more fun way (IMO) and with BFG's! Also, having spent a lot of time on LotRO, and enjoying it to an extent, but ultimately finding it really shallow, a part of me can't help but think i wasted my time on it.Well thats an interesting one. I was minging for LoTRO for months and loved every minute of most of my 48 levels. I am now switching it on (rarely), staring at it all for 5 mins, running up and down a field and switching it off again - shallow it may be, sadly the word I use often to myself is boring. I still can't bring meeself to cancel it though. Does TR include any of these:-Persistent player/guild housing / citiesNot that I have found yet. As I am not in a Guild no idea about the guild interface. Chat needs work and it will come - look at the dev logs. The player Auction house isn't even in yet but is next update I'm told. -Skill based system (not class based)You might have to elaborate this one a bit. What I can say is the leveling is primarily Class based but deep and diverse. Each class branches into different types of Specialists from gunners to exobiologists . That said, within the classes are unique and shared skill sets that are upgraded with leveling points which make your avatar unique. For example, if I pursued the specialist route rather than a soldier, I cant use some of his weapons (I think..) but I can then spend skill points to become an engineer, medic or biologist. Further you spend character points on your mind body and soul - a touch of Ultima and Baldur's if I ever saw it Finally you get missions to discover an alien language (in game allies language) these 'rune' type characters need to be learned to enable you to unlock skill paths agains which you can apply points. Many points can be applied to the 'magic' type path or the 'engineering' type path ()as we are empaths - the chosen ones). So its pretty unique, or rather a super hybrid, and yor character will end up truly unique. //phew... Complex craftingNo idea! I can't make head nor tail of it!! Never been able to craft a darned think. Seems hi - tech and you need blueprints (drops and rewards) and ingredients - drops and also dissasembling stuff then making intermediates to use in recipies - NOT a clue complex wtf?? fun? who knows. Oh and you can craft modifications from mod recipies as well to existing weps armour etc. And what are the player base like? Much TXT-speak? Entire conversations with "lol" at the end of every sentence? Rude players?Mixed. There are definitely a few tossers from WoW attracted by the combat style but aren't there everywhere these days? I can't see them sticking around - who knows? The chat interface needs work so its a massive footy crowd of questions in some channels - that said every question I have tossed into the general channel has had a detailed answer - rare. There are certainly Garriott old-0timer fans and enough quet slow burner types. It's very early to say...

Here's a funny - a lot of Gamestops (ubiquitous gaming store in the US) sold the pre-order but didn't have any keys. Anyway - so I got this box and am installing it on both the desktop and my laptop. Glad I didn't pay the extra five bucks anyway. Would have bought it off Steam if given the chance. I'll activate it tomorrow and join you on a the UK server Steevo. I'll just. . .read the instructions I guess. Figures, alien races invades the planet and I show up late for the battle. I promise to powerlevel up to you so we can do stuff.

I'm in. Created a character on the EU server called Trencher (surname Nakedraygun). It was 2am here so I only leveled up to 5. Ran pretty smoothly on yonder European server.
Totally enjoying it. Became a specialist and definitely shooting for Engineer (just like in Team Fortress). Mech suit? Hells yeah. Hacking and Crab Mines? Sign me up! Bot construction and wormholes? Woot. I'll be an engineer/mage/mech rider.
Anyway - I'm all over this game like a cheap suit. I'll see you on later Steevo.

Ok well from what you say about the skill/career system it sounds like i could find the diversity i have been starved of for 2 years (yes i know i sound like a stuck record!) I am assuming i am too late for the preview thing, so is there any way i can get a taste without shelling out for the box and a month's subscription? How big is the DL for the preview?

I don't think they have a try and buy at this time. Why don't you wait and see what Heff and Trencher think? It would be great to get you in but I don't want to be responsible for you spending yer hard earned doubloons if you dont like it. Heff can give you some idea on d/l times.

Yup - this game is fun. You might want to put aside all thoughts on what an MMO should be and just take the plunge.
I am also glad that there is plenty in this game for the more casual gamer (not that I am one - but I don't have time to play it like I used to play WoW - nor do I want to) and can dip in and out of it if you like.
The instances are a blast and the abilities and class trees are great fun too. Can't wait to get my mech suit and start opening up some wormholes.
